Hi all, story short. I was playing a video game when suddenly everything froze, screen went black and my laptop restarted. Blue screen appears, I freak out and restart it again. System asks if I want to start Windows normally. I do. Freezes on loading screen then offers to try and fix problems automatically. Fails.

Reinstalled Windows. Installing drivers. As soon as I install graphics driver for my AMD Radeon HD 7970M (Clevo) the laptop freezes and restarts again offering to fix the problems again with no success.

I tried reinstalling Windows, graphics drivers a few times but no luck so far. I even tried to use the graphics driver that came on a DVD when I purchased the machine. I have reinstalled Windows with that last year and everything worked perfectly. Could have something happened to the GPU itself?

If I dont install the AMD graphics driver the laptop works fine. I can watch funny cat videos on YouTube. But I really want to fix the problem so I can continue playing video games

I dont know what information you need but Ill leave some general stuff.

Hi Paul, thanks for the response. I reinstalled Windows about 2 hours ago and I immediately disabled Windows update. I double checked the updates I have now and the one you mentioned is not on the list. All I have is KB2621440 and KB976902

It doesnt show anything as the cause of this crash 0x0000003b stop error

But I have a feeling it has something to do with hybrid graphics. This stop error can happen when you put a laptop into hybrid sleep / close the lid.

Does this happen if/when you do this?

Another attempt. Installed Ethernet driver and AMD graphics driver (ignoring Intel HD 4000 Graphics driver). The computer does not crash but I think it does not identify the card. I tried starting up a game and it was giving errors pointing at the video card. Also, Device Manager says my Radeon HD 7979M is disabled and there is a yellow exclamation mark next to it. Perhaps my graphics card died or something.

Paul, I have an HP dv7 laptop that is having problems coming out of sleep mode. Adobe Premier will not run unless I update my Intel graphics driver, but when I do that I get a conflict with the Radeon driver. I can use the computer this way, but when it comes out of sleep I just get a black screen. I can tell the computer is running, with normal logon sounds, but no graphics. Any thoughts?

i have the same problem , when i install the amd driver i can't play or surf the web or download something. my pc is restarting or driver crash and then restart.
i have cpu fx 6300 and R9 290X
