AMD HD 8750M won't work at all

A friend of mine bought a new Samsung Series 3 laptop. Core i3 Ivy Bridge with HD4000, 4 GB DDR3 1333 and a HD 8750M 1 GB gpu.

The laptop is running Windows 8 x64, latest possible drivers (except Intel motherboard drivers, if it has any) and AMD 13.6 Beta 2 drivers & 13.5 CAP1.

Installed latest Directx and Visual C 2005/8/10/12 x86 and x64.

I don't seem to be able to make ANY GAME run on the AMD gpu. All games run default on the Intel HD4000, whatever changes I make in the AMD Catalyst Control Center. (including the settings for the Enduro Graphic Switching)


The games he currently has problems on are Portal 2 (run like crap, on low settings) and Flatout Ultimate Carnage (the game only recognises the Intel GPU).


What could be causing these issues? More so, is there any way I could FORCE the laptop to use the AMD gpu? (obviously without completely disabling the Intel GPU)

the enduro graphics will only work when the laptop is plugged into the mains, it seems to be a feature/flaw of the dedicated graphics in that it gets disabled when on battery.

Unfortunately, the situation doesn't change, regarding of plug-in status.

This thing is driving me insane. I mean, I saw the recent article on Tom's regarding the HD 7970M enduro performance and how it has improved over time. Well, in this case the GPU isn't working AT ALL in ANY given situation.

only other thing i can think is doing a clean install of your drivers, download driver fusion and install it.

uninstall current driver and do not restart.
run driver fusion and clean amd drivers then restart.
install the driver from the link.

you dont need the cap, the driver is newer than the cap.

Well, I know this GPU isn't new, being a rebranded 7000M and all, it has only been officially supported only since the 13.5 Beta2.

I'll try do a clean install as you said. Maybe it will work.

This might be a looong shot, but do you think Windows 8 could be the problem? Seing how the games I mentioned aren't officially meant to run on this platform. I usually don't blame the OS, but hey, it happens in rare occasions.

i do not believe so, the driver i linked says it supports windows 8 so it should work.

So I tried Driver Fusion. Not only did it wipe my AMD drivers, it also wiped the Intel too without me clicking on something.
So I had no video driver at all. I procceded reinstalling the Intel ones, but even those didn't want to work now. After using System Mechanic Free to fix some stuff, the Intel driver started working ... I tried to install the AMD drivers. Funny enough, even 13.4 didn't said anything when I installed them, even though HD8750 is not compatible with these drivers. And they really aren't since the drivers were nowhere to be found.

I installed 13.5 b2 and 13.6b2, but while they installed fine, now I can't open the Catalyst Control Center because some other error.

Man, do I need a WHQL driver.

Aha ! I finally managed to make it work !

After the problems Driver Fusion brought me, I just reinstalled the Intel driver (latest, Idris Pro aware driver) and again AMD's 13.6 Beta2.

The Catalyst wasn't showing up at all. Something about CCC.Implementation error on its dependencies. So I just disabled .NET Framerwork 2 through 4.5 in Uninstall Programs (Using Windows 8, remember). Then I reactivated 2 through 4.5 the same way I disabled them.

I proceeded with unistalling the AMD drivers using RevoUnistaller. After I deleted everything, including registry entries, without a restart, I installed 13.6 Beta2 again.

After everything went normal, I restarted the laptop. Back in Windows, I noticed Catalyst Control Center was working again. Yeeei. But I noticed something weird ...

I never had a laptop with an AMD GPU on my hands, certainly not one with Enduro technology. So I was quite surprised when I saw than in the Context Menu of the Catalyst Tray Icon there were options for "Intel HD4000 graphics". And they were all options for the AMD GPU ! I really don't understant the Context Menu structuring, suffice it to say I enabled from there High Performance when Plugged and when On Battery.

Using MSI Afterburner, I checked to see if the GPU was showing any usage. Lo and behold. In both Flatout Ultimate Carnage and Portal 2 the GPU was hovering at aroung 60-80%, and both games were easily running over 30 fps with all settings maxed. (FOUC no AA, Portal 2 just 4xMSAA).

No more choppyness, no more delayed imputs, everything was running beautifully (not optimally, no 99% usage, but I guess that's in due time).

My problem is when I uninstalled AMD completely i restarted but when i right on the desktop i still see amd ccc but everything is deleted and when i click on it, it doesnt do anything please help
I am using Samsung ativ book 4
