A while back I heard that AMD was going to make it so that you couldn't close these to OC did they ever do this? If not what do you think would be a conservative estimation of what i would get out of these chips:
1.0GHZ
1.1GHZ
1.2GHZ

Thanks

There was talk a while bac about removing 4 pins from the bottom of the chip to prevent overclocking, but I don't think they ever did it.

I ain't seen a beating like that since somebody stuck a banana in my pants and turned a monkey loose

I seriously doubt AMD would ever do that- a lot of people buy AMD processors because they are so easy to overclock. They'd be cutting their noses off. Also, allowing them to overclock gives hardware reviewers the ability to compare a T-bird to a P4 at the same clock speed- effectively promoting AMD. =) Just my 2 cents.

They specifically cut the L1 bridges so that people couldn't overclock. Overclocking is the quickest way to void the chips warranty. I'm pretty sure AMD doesn't want people overclocking.

And there are many sites that talked about AMD removing 4 pins to prevent overclocking. I don't know exactly where but if you want to try and find them you could start by going to http://www.amdzone.com

Oh come on! If AMD really wanted to stop overclockers- they would have found a better way than cutting the L1 bridges. Sure, AMD discourages overclocking. But if they really wanted to stop it- they'd do it.

I'm not saying they never talked about it. What I'm saying is I doubt AMD would EVER do it. Most of AMD's sales come from OEM dealers which warranty the CPU's thru themselves. Anyways, when hasn't there been a non-overclockable CPU? It's been a longggggggg time. There will always be a way around it =)
