that 5700x3d is gonna be a tough sell vs the 5800x3d & 5700x

its only $40~ more for the 5800x3d with 400mhz more speed & the 5700x is also 400mhz faster for $70~ less...and thats not even OC'd.

The 5700X3D makes little to no sense. Clocks are already limited on 3D chips and losing more will hurt. Also, I have no idea how Paul missed out on the obvious when he said:

Likewise, the Ryzen 7 5700 is very similar to the standard Ryzen 7 5700X, except this chip is $25 less and comes with a 300 MHz higher base clock, thus removing any reason to buy the 5700X.

The 5700 has half the L3 cache and is limited to PCIe 3 according to AMD's website. Clearly it is another laptop chip appearing on the desktop. Sounds very much like a 5700G without the graphics.

5500GT is listed as having 4 cores in the slide. AMD's mistake, not yours. It was leaked earlier with the mistake on it.

I suspect the performance difference will be small despite the clock decreases, and some of that could be recovered with an overclock. Kind of like how the 5700X was a "price cut disguised as a new chip" vs. the 5800X, except 5700X3D also takes a 400 MHz hit on the turbo clock. Guess we'll find out later this month.

Don't think you can OC a 3D variant. That 400MHz may not mean much in games, but if you need your CPU to do other demanding things, it will hurt some.

I wouldn't mind losing 400MHz (not such a big difference) for a much cheaper CPU. And even if it has less clock, the extra cache should put it above the 5700X in games. Also, the 5800X3D is too close in price to the AM5 platform, which brings another level of performance. There is a niche there for the 5700X3D.

"but the remaining three chips come with a bundled Wraith Spire cooler."

It looks like only the Ryzen 7 5700 comes with the spire, the 5500 and 5600 GT both come with the stealth, which is a piece of junk. I wish they would just make the spire the default, the stealth is borderline at best in a lot of cases, ive seen 5700G's hitting 95C with them, and thats at stock with decent ventilation. It'd be nice if they brought back the spire with a copper plug at the bottom, those were decent, but I doubt that will happen.

I suppose there is a niche, but I would take the 5700X for even less money. It is basically a 5800X with a few settings changed. But I also don't play newer more cache dependant games.

I had a Spire with the copper at the bottem with a 2600X. It was decent enough. But they got rid of that because copper is more expensive I guess. And the Stealth has pretty much always been a joke.

I am pretty disappointed with this.

I was hoping for a 65watt TDP solution.

Oh well, my 5700x will soldier on.

OTOH, I now have an additional $250 to spend on weird GPUs from Aliexpress.

This release seems more like a "don't expect new AM5 chips until late in the year" than anything else. These are all binned chips and mostly seem like a way to get rid of stock. If Zen 5 were to be launching soon I imagine the price cuts on Zen 4 would rapidly wipe out the benefit of AM4.

Nah, 6 months is far away enough for this to still be a get rid of stock situation without people waiting for zen4 price drops.

I'd rather stick an RTX 5080 onto a 5800x3d than 5700x3d. Nobody asked for this. Where is the 8700Gx3D?
They aren't going to send every 5800x3d that didn't meet binning requirements to the dump. AMD as a history of doing this, don't know why you seem upset about it.

OTOH, I was really hoping that the 5700x3d was binned for 65 watts, like almost every other x700 CPU.
