Problem is that according to many benchmark sites, and opinions, the 7500F is faster than the 8600G, and similar relative performance is expectable from the other members of the 8xxx generation. The 8xxx has higher price and lower amount of cache than the meaningfully comparing lower tier members of the 7xxx generation, so I do not really see the point.

Looks like the 7600 (non X) is better than anything from the 8xxx series, apart from the 8 core performance, and the 7700 non-X clears all, as it is a 8 core CPU, while the 7600 has 6 cores.

A dedicated GPU is going to cost more than the $30 - $40 saved with one of these CPUs

It all comes down to street price compared to MSRP. If the 8700f ends up being 270 dollars then that seems like a good deal. Same for the 8400f if it ends up at 160. To paraphrase, "There is never a bad product, just bad prices."

I just checked the Newegg links after this post and my guessed street prices are almost exactly on point lol.

If you were already planning to use a dGPU, then it does indeed work out to be a savings.

Unless you have a high end GPU those monolithic amd chips are much better than the 7600 and the 7700x simply because of how efficient they are. They idle down to single digits and do simple tasks much more efficiency than the multi died 7600 and 7700. It's only when it comes to games with really fast GPUs that the bigger caches on 7xxx makes a difference.
