[SOLVED] AMD memory to Intel

I want to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB on a MSI motherboard model ms-7529.
the max is 8GB but it only has 2 DIM slots. the memory suppport is DDR2 667/ 800 SDRAM 240pin/ 1.8v.
the only RAM I seem to find are say for AMD only. or are really costly. Can a RAM memory made for AMD with the same specs work on this motherboard?

Aside from the more recent Flare X modules that come with memory profiles tuned for use with Ryzen chipsets, there really are no AMD or Intel memory modules. Mostly, prior to DDR4, there were just "memory modules", period.

The only thing that makes a memory module more suited for AMD or Intel are the speed, timing and voltage profiles known largely as XMP or Extreme memory profiles, but on older chipsets they tend to work fine regardless of platform so long as they are otherwise compatible in terms of speed and form factor.

What is the exact model number of the kit you wish to use?

I don't have any exact model of memory kit yet. been looking on Ebay and Amazon, mainly looking for same specs. don't want to spend too much money will eventually upgrade to newer computer.

Intel Pentium D CPU 3.40GHz

You can use any of the following:

DDR2 400 MHz
DDR2 533 MHz
DDR2 667 MHz
DDR2 800 MHz
DDR2 1066 MHz


You will need a 2 x4GB kit, as that board seems to have only two DIMM slots. There is no AMD or Intel, just DDR2-xxxx.

For sure. Are you in the US or elsewhere? Also, I kind of have to somewhat retract my earlier statement about there not being AMD and Intel DDR2 memory. Actually, there's not, technically, however some early AMD platforms were capable of running high density memory modules while Intel platforms from that same era were not able to, so some memory that was high density DDR2 was "labeled" as AMD memory, when it fact it was just "memory" that happened to be high density.

You can google high vs low density memory and get all the information you could ever want on that pretty easily.

You will want to target low density modules for your Intel platform.
