Ok i'm looking to upgrade my pc's cpu and motherboard. These are the only 2 i'm looking to upgrade within my pc. And i'm looking to go as cheap as possible. Looking to try to go quad core plus (such as the 6300 as an example).

My current system as it is:

Before its suggested i prefer to stick with AMD as i've had good luck with their cpu's over the years and trust their cpu's over intel. I do not have any pc stores any where near me so it will be ordered online. I have ordered from newegg as well as amazon and microcenter (i wish microcenter had more of their deals online).

I do quite a bit of gaming. But i have no plans to do any sli/crossfire or any overclocking at all. I'm just looking for a great dependable cpu and motherboard. I've been considering a fm2 combo but would much rather prefer a fx series cpu in the mobo cpu combo if at all possible. And i'm trying to go as cheap as i can with it. If i can get a 6100 or 6300 or 6350 or a 8320 in it all the better but open to suggestions based on the price.

So what do people here suggest as an upgrade? Go FX or fm2? And why do you suggest your suggestion over the other options that are out there? I'm looking for a solution but thought it be best to put a poll to get others opinions who may not post. Thanks ahead of time for your help thoughts and opinions.

Any of the FX processors will use the AM3+ socket where as the Athlons and APUs will use the FM1 or FM2, or FM2+ sockets. So if you decide to go with the lower powered Athlons or APUs, be sure to get a board with the FM2+ socket as the FM2 boards are now a dead end for anything newer.

But you will have a selection of faster processors if you choose an AM3+ system. But your 450W Antec, while a good quality PSU, is a bit underpowered to go very high up the food chain in gfx cards and processors. If you stay with that PSU, look at the FX-6300/6350 and something in the R9-260x for AMD or GTX 750 Ti for Nvidia.

I know what sockets each of them use. I was looking for suggestions on what specific cpu and motherboard combo that would meet my needs. Most suggest the 970 or 990 chipset motherboards for fx builds but it has features that are really unneeded for what i'd use it for such as sli/crossfire or for overclocking. And i do not ever plan to go for high end gpu's. That is chasing an impossible dream to keep your specs high. I'm not looking to just throw large amounts of money to do that.

What i posted this for was for specific motherboard and cpu combo recommendations. With so many different motherboard chipsets out there and so many cpu's it can be hard to try to stay up on top of them. Which is why i was asking advice here on what mobo and cpu combo others would think would work best.
