Amd motherboard chipset

Hi, I am looking to buy my first amd motherboard and processor, I was wondering about the chipset that is on these motherboards. Are there ones to stay away from or what are the good choices for the northbridge chipset. I see chipsets ranging from 5xx to 8xx range. I know what processor and memory I want and speeds so I have checked motherboards that have those qualifications but I see so many diff chipsets that go along with the ones I have looked at as well so I just want to make sure I make a good choice.
