Hello, I've been trying to find out what differences are with the AMD motherboards there are numbers like

770
870
880
890
990FX

And the others :O.

I heard that when getting a Bulldozer CPU, only the 990FX supports the features of the BD.

Thank you for your help :)

Their northbridge versions. The higher the newer. The 990FX is the newest and is the only one that support Bulldozer, ( I beleive).

Edit: some am3 boards can do bulldozer. Its made for AM3+ and you probably wont find any AM3's with 990fx

The numbers represent chipset features for the most part. For each higher number, the more current and up-to-date the features. Then 990FX chipset is the latest and was made with the intent of being used with Bulldozer CPU's once they released.

FX is their Enthursiast line with the highest quality and/or most features, X is a subset of that, and GX is like X but with onboard graphics and usually micro-atx. It differs between each generation though and kind of hard to explain in general terms, at least for me anyway. Check ou this wiki and see if it answers anything for you:

990FX is the top of the line all extra features motherboards. AMD will only officially support AM3+ 9XX series chisets for bulldoozer even though many others will work. Yeah hard to explain... its like they go out of there way to confuse...

AM3+ boards will support the new am3+ procs. Most AM3 boards will also support the AM3+ procs. The biggest difference is some of the AM3+ boards support X-Fire, and SLi. If you want a cheaper AM3+ board with SLi, and X-Fire (as well as USB 3, and SATA 6).
