Discussion AMD or Intel for Late 2021 (and what series?)

So, if I buy my components in Late 2021, and they'll be used for gaming, and occasionally school. Would you say I stick with a Ryzen 5000 CPU, snag a higher-end 5000 CPU (or a newer ryzen if possible), or grab a current Intel CPU or a newer intel CPU and (which one?) trying to stay under $400? I've heard that Rocket Lake is releasing, so Rocket Lake, 5600X, or higher ryzen or Intel CPU?

Possibilities: (Zen 4 and Zen 5 are releasing in 2022)
Zen 3 CPU (current-gen) 5600X
Zen 4 (prob not) - DDR5 RAM and PCIE 5.0
Zen 5 (prob not) - AM5 socket
Intel Rocket Lake - i7 11700KF, 11700, 11700F, i5 11600K
Intel Ice Lake - i9 (slim chance), i7, i5
Intel Alder Lake - idk
Intel Core i7 10700K or i5 10600K (current-gen)

Also, another choice, wait for 2022 and get the AM5 mobos and CPUs.

At this particular moment it's hard to recommend AMD because of the GPU shortage. For instance, if you don't have one at all you can't use the computer. If you buy one right now you spend more than your whole (rest of computer). If I were forced into buying all new, tomorrow, it would be 10th gen Intel simply due to that.

Yep... I built 10th gen in December 10900k... and if I were building today thru the day before 12th gen launched... I'd still go 10th gen.

Valid point, assuming I have a 30 series GPU for reference, but the GPU shortage prevents that, so I totally agree.

Well by late 2021 there might not be any GPU shortage anymore, bitcoin can crash at any moment once again.

Intel is about to release dGPUs as well at least they will have an announcement soon, cards might or might not take a while.

Also AMDs next gen is supposed to come out at the end of the year as well as intel's next gen so just look at what will be available at that time for your $400 and decide then.
