AMD or Intel for vmware ESXi whitebox?

I'm looking at building a ESXi whitebox and would like to know what CPU to got with.
What would get me the best bang for the buck in regards to virtualization.
I know one of the key resources is to have lots of memory, I'm looking at get 32GB's, but doesn't have to be 32GB to start off with, as memory prices have gone up.

I already have a case and 750W power supply.
So I'm looking at Motherboard, CPU, Memory, Extra NIC, video card if needed.

Can you help me put together a box that will accommodate spending about $700.00

Well to be honest you'd get the best bang for your buck by buying a 8-core AMD CPU, since your using this for virtualization your going to need the extra cores.

Check out the different VM extensions on the 8320 and i7-4770k you can use other models aswell.
There is a reason why intel is leading CPU in the server industry.
I work with servers and programming and VMwares for living, I could point out a few points were intel's CPU takes ahead.

I was looking at the i7-4770, it's my understanding that the 4770k is for over clocking and doesn't support VT-d (Virtualization with Directed I/O).
