AMD or Nvidia for Hackintosh

So, I'm helping my buddy put together a hackintosh rig, but I'm more comfortable around windows builds. (duh, there aren't as many compatibility restraints)

Anyways, so he needed a really budget build, (like seriously budget) but he still wanted to play games so I pulled up an AMD card because as I recalled, Apple used AMD graphics cards and basically had native support for Polaris. So, I figured I'd get him an RX 480/70/60.

But then, on tonymacx86, they said to use Nvidia GPUS... whaaaaaaaaat?

So, which one is better compatibility-wise?

(did I mention I hate compatibility issues)

Thanks in advance!

1) GTX "10" series (Pascal, such as GTX1060) isn't likely to happen until there are Apple computers using a Pascal GPU. There's no certainty that will ever happen.

2) Hackintosh takes a LOT of reading and investigating to prevent hardware issues. Even then, setup can be a hassle.

3) Support varies by the version of MACOS. In fact, Apple could add in updates that BREAKS support for hardware. Hackintosh's are illegal but Apple won't do much about it unless the issue is shown to be spinning out of control.

(The Hackintosh ecosystem may actually gain Apple more than it loses. People can dip their toes into it and use the product but get frustrated at the issues then give up and buy an actual computer).

4) I would suggest avoiding the Hackintosh unless it's super important. The main reason is that I would recommend a GTX1050Ti or RX-470 4GB for budget builders. The NVidia Pascal card is not supported, and I'm not sure how well the RX-470 card is either.

Also not sure about the more modern motherboards. again, do not buy any hardware unless you know it's supported without any major issues

5) Even with MACOS, you'll still want Windows 10 installed for gaming. For that situation you'd be best with two different drives for each OS then use Apple Bootcamp to boot to one or the other (and ideally a third drive for backup).

If you go that way, I'd setup Windows 10 first, then later unhook the W10 drive and attempt to install MACOS to another drive.
