AMD Overdrive Question

Hello, I recently bought a Toshiba L850d with an AMD Processor. Not a fan of AMD, but the Graphics is better for Diablo 3. My question is, is it safe to use AMD Overdrive? Apparently it's the safest way to boost the Processor. My current one is a 1.9 GHz Quad Core, up to 2.8 with Turbo. I have the option to turn on TurboCore from the BIOS, but I would rather have a program that helps. I'm not experienced with Overclocking, and am just looking for a slight boost for my Gaming. I wanted to ask around before I try anything myself. Thanks for any input.

It actually depends on what exactly you want. It sounds as though you are running a laptop. If so, turbo is disabled in the bios to enable longer battery life. So because it is disabled you are maxed at 1.9 GHz.

If you do not expect to over clock that high, then enabling the turbo mode in bios is the way to go.

You can then make custom power plan settings for battery consumption.. Entering those settings in windows may also net you more performance without seeking higher than stock over clock.

If you intend to go above the turbo mode level, then leave it disabled and use AMD overdrive. If that is the case, I would be very careful about temps.

You could also use AMD overdrive to get an over clock lower than 2.8 to keep temps down...

So, the answer is yes, it can be safe if your careful. And no, it is not safe if your not. Enabling turbo mode in bios will probably not void your warranty, I'm not sure about AMD OD, it could void your warranty. You should check into that if the warranty is important to maintain.
