So im going to upgrade my desktop pc just keeping the 6870 GPU (will upgrade in future). there is always way to much choice so its best to choose intel/amd first

I choose Amd because it benchmarks higher for less money so its great for desktops. not very power efficient though but its a desktop and not a laptop. (and i don't care about saving trees)

AMD R9 R7 R5 are the new graphics now with pcie 3.0 except any board with a good amd cpu is pcie 2.0 because of the old chipset

AMD mid-range "Apu"s on the other hand (FM2+ Socket) do have pcie 3 and are more future proof except the best processors for it are mid-range and have integrated crappy graphics

the main issue here is that amd have made a new socket/chipset that is diferent and more "extra choice" than "newer technology" and that just what i need. more choice. if you ask me R9 R7 and R5 is just one higher than i3 i5 i7 and what happened to 4, 6 & 8? they just not cool enough?

I'm going to agree with them, you really should worry about trees, not that that has much to do with the original post.

As for AMD CPUs, PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 are pretty similar for most users. I'm using a 290 with my FX-8350, it works just fine. AM3+ is a two-year old socket, you shouldn't expect it to have 3.0. And besides, the real-life differences between the two standards are nearly indistinguishable.
