Which setup would be better for gaming and general web browsing. I won't be doing much multimedia stuff so I don't think I will need 6 cores any input?

Here is my setup

Mobo : GIGABYTE GA-770TA-UD3
Memory: 16 gigs
GFX : 550 ti
CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 830 (Killin me)

I mostly play BF3/LoL and I sort of get some lag I was wondering if changing my CPU would help?

the x6 is usefull when you are heavily multitasking or doing cpu intensive multihtreaded processing like rendering video. For just about all gameplay it does well but dont expect any improvement over an x4, in fact it will be a little slower in most.

I agree with this ^ If it was me, I would just get the 955 and OC it to the 980 speed (3.7ghz)...:p

He might get a few FPS higher, but I still say go for something like the 965, which is on sale for like 114. Or even the 960t which is 125 and has a chance of being unlocked to a 6 core. At this point, go the cheaper route, even if you have to sacrifice like 5 fps that you wont even notice. There is a whole new generation of CPUs up and coming, and Thuban is, in an electronic sense, old. Just my opinion :)
