HELP!!! My son has an AMD Phenom II x4 Black Edition that we installed last Christmas. We have completely wiped the hard drive clean and started over. It still is not very fast. What can I do to improve his performance?

Solution
In what way is it now very fast? Is it not very fast in playing games? Is it not very fast in booting windows? Is it unresponsive while on the windows desktop? Does it happen randomly or in certain applications? Does it only happen when running lots of applications at the same time?

All of the above is not an adequate answer as the pc given the stats you gave should fill the following.

Able to run windows with generally a small amount of lag when opening programs.
Able to surf the web while having multiple tabs open given a fast enough internet connection.
Able to play casual games without issue but slow down considerably when running high end games probably almost to a crawl.

We can help you but you need to help us understand what...

Helping you is first helping us, could you list the machines exact specs, including the operating system being used?

A shot in the dark without that information would be to limit the applications auto starting and using up system resources.

MSI Radeon HD 7750 Video Card, Windows 7, MSI 970A-G46 AMD 9 Series Motherboard, 1TB, 7200 RPM Hard Drive and 8 gb ram. I am willing to purchase things to upgrade for Christmas, I just don't know what and don't want to spend too much. Thanks

If the issue is running games which I have a feeling it is because your son is having issues with it and the specs should be good for everything else I would recommend the following.

$110 - Radeon R270

$145 - Radeon R270X Card

$180 - Radeon R280
