hi im just wondering would a gtx 590 be slow for a amd phenom ii x6 1055t and i know the gtx 590 is two or three years old but i dont have much money like a r9 290 and i will be gaming at 4800x900 res so im just wondering would it bottleneck it ?

This CPU and graphics card will make a good gaming machine.
With a three screen setup like this, you should be able to run at a good framerate if you avoid the highest detail settings.

The other warning is that the GTX 590 draws up to 365W and the Phenom ii x6 1055t draws up to 125W.
I would suggest at least an 800W power supply.

You'll see no significant increase in frame rates by overclocking your CPU.

The performance of the graphics card affects what graphics settings you can use.
The CPU needs to be fast enough to run a game at the desired frame rate.
A faster graphics card doesn't mean you need a faster CPU, it means you can use higher graphics detail settings.

The AMD FX-4170 is managing an average of 51.5 frames per second.
That is plenty for a game to run smootly.

If you couple this with a Radeon HD 7770 you can use 1680x1050 resolution at low detail and get the same framerate:

If you couple this with a Radeon HD 7970 you can use 1920x1080 resolution at ultra detail and get the same frame rate.

Saying that though, I would actually choose a 4 core CPU at a higher clock rate over a 6 core with a lower clock rate as games don't make good use of the extra cores.

The fx 4170 is just the cpu they used in the benchmark.
You can get a Phenom II X4 CPU with a higher clock rate that will perform better in games than the Phenom II x6 1055T at 2.8GHz.
These range from the 850 at 3.3GHz to the 980 at 3.7GHz.

The extra cores do have an advantage there:

Within the Phenom II 6 core processors, choosing a processor with a higher clock rate will help with video editing.
For games, any of them at stock clock rates will be fine.

I don't think resolution affects CPU usage.
This means a 3 monitor setup should have similar CPU usage to a single monitor setup.
