I currently have an i3-3220 and i am looking for something a bit faster. I do mild gaming and a bit of multitasking. I plan on overclocking alot too. I need a good Motherboard that allows high overclock if you guys would recommend me one of these too. something arpund 150$ for the Processor and around 80 for the motherboard.

Thanks Guys!

If you are ready to spend 170$, go ahead and get 8350 :)

If your CPU isn't cutting it and you have a $230 budget to improve performance, by far your best option is this: i5 3470 for $200: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234
It'll drop in your current motherboard, no software/rebuild required.

You can't overclock it, but for most tasks it's faster than anything AMD has to offer even when OC'd.

Despite years of dual, quad and higher core CPUs, single-threaded performance is still hugely important. Intel is so far ahead of AMD in this regard which is why a dual core (4 thread) i3 can keep up with a (sort of) 8 core AMD 8350 or similar for lots and lots of benchmarks. If you have a particular application which runs well on AMD many-core architectures AND a strict budget, then AMD builds can make sense. But you already have the Intel Motherboard, chuck in the higher end CPU and be at least as fast (perhaps there will be a few specific scenarios where the AMD would be a little better), but in many situations it will be much better.
Plus you won't need an aftermarket cooler and you'll save on heat and power.

Im looking for something that would overclock to compensate for not buying an intel processor.

I suggest you to sell that card and get GTX 960, if you want to play games in 1080p. If you can spend 340$, get the GTX 970.

Get an Amd fx 6300. Power efficient and it gives decent single thread performance and good multi thread performance. With dx12 coming out which focus on multi threading the 6300 will be a good choice. I wouldn't recommend the 8 core fx as games rarely use more than -4 cores. Your gpu will be more important

He is asking something better than i3 3220.

Which is why I suggested the i5 3470... for subtantially LESS money than an 8 core FX + new motherboard + aftermarket cooler. But hey... it's his money!

I have a few more questions. Im selling my old cpu and mobo for around 160 is it worth the extra 120$ to upgrade to the amd and amd mobo. And that mobo doesnt have a PCI 3.0 is that a problem?

It is definitely worth it. You will see the difference in multitasking and encoding. PCIe 2.0 is compatible with PCIe 3.0 cards. It is not a big problem at all.

OK, fair enough. Makes a lot more sense if you've got a buyer and decent price for your current CPU+Mobo.

If you can save 60$ more, I will suggest you to buy 4690K and ASUS Z97-A. 4690k is better than 8350.
