Athlon actually runs at 100 MHz, but the throughput is twice that of a traditional 100 MHz bus.
Actually, older buses transfered data only when the clock cycle would start or end during a clock cycle. Athlon does it on both instances, at the start and also at the end of each cycle. This practically doubles the throuput per cycle, and hence it runs at a 200 MHz effective frequency, still running at 100 MHz actual.
