AMD R9 270X Low Fps on minecraft

Hi, I just got a new PC, here are the specs.

Hard Drive : SATA 1TB
RAM : Corsair 8GB 16000mhz
GPU : AMD R9 270X 2GB
CPU : AMD 6300 Black Edition

I can run minecraft on the top settings, but only getting around 40 fps, my friend has a 660, and these two GPU's are pretty much the same, but he is getting a round 300 fps.
Is there any thing I can do to sort this out.

Thats probably fine.

Umm...Open task manager -> Processes and see if you have a program using 99% CPU usage

Download CPU-z see if your fx6300 is running all 6 threads and not only 2.

^^ Got these problems on my fx6300 in the past

I think its to do with the GPU, I'll check, I'm not with my pc at the moment

might be wrong but you might need to allocate more RAM to java

start / control panel / Programs. double click on "Java"
go to the Java tab
click view
in the Runtime Parameters section
type -Xms2048m

No, that didnt help, reinstalled the graphics drivers too

I have an AMD r9 280x, with an intel i7 4790k, it's definitely the graphics driver, I have re installed it many times to no avail. Before, I had a NVIDIA GTX 550 ti, a way worse GPU than the r9 280x, and minecraft ran at an FPS out the window. Now on my r9 280x I get about 30 FPS, up to 60 FPS, but it has huge lag spikes every other second.
