I'm having some problems with my XFX Double D R9-280X 3GB graphics card, and I'm wondering if there's a known fix for this. I've tried reading about it, and there seems to be other people having the same problem, but I haven't found a solution for it.

I've been using the card for about 4 months now. The issues started maybe 2 months ago. I'm using 2 monitors in my setup, the main monitor is a 1920x1200p BenQ plugged via HDMI, and the secondary is a 1920x1080p BenQ plugged via DVI.

So the issue I'm having is that the card randomly crashes. This happens a couple times a week, for no apparent reason. It usually happens while just browsing the web. Most of the time, it only affects my secondary monitor. The screen turns gray (most of the time, but sometimes also green or red), stuttering with horizontal or vertical lines. Sometimes I get the error message that my video drivers stopped working but has been fixed, and then it starts working normally again after a short while. Most of the time though the only way to fix it is to restart the computer. Sometimes both of my screens crash, resulting in a blue screen. I've provided a picture of this happening here:

I would say that 90% of the time the issue only affects my secondary display, not affecting my main display or graphics at all, and I can keep using the computer normally (I just turn off the second display so that I don't have to look at the flickering).
I have the latest Catalyst version (14.9) and the latest graphics driver. The issues might have originally started after an automatic AMD update, I'm not sure.

Do you think this is a driver related issue, or could my card me faulty? My while build is new, I built it myself and it worked fine at first. The components I have are:

Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3
Intel i5 4670K
XFX Double D R9-280X 3GB
Crucial ballistix 8GB
Fractal design Tesla r2 650W PSU

All my drivers should be up to date.

Happy for any input or suggestions, as this is starting to get pretty annoying!

I will check next time it crashes. It hasn't happened yet today, even though I've been using the computer for the past 10 hours. Right now the card is at 48-50C according to speedfan.

No it didn't, but i did find a fix that removed the problem completely for me:

I used to have my main screen connected with DVI, and my second screen with HDMI. All I had to do was switch the cables around, so that main screen is connected with hdmi and 2nd screen with DVI, and my problems were solved.

Hello, That is a very strange fix, so a resolution issue with the monitor was the cause? i wouldnt be surprised if the problem is still here. You may want to swap video cards, take out some ram, test as much hardware are you can, but a driver uninstall reinstall would be my main guess. If you haven't already, please create a ticket at xfxsupport.com for more assistance as well as RMA support

I don't know why swapping between dvi and hdmi on screen 1 and 2 fixed it, but it did. I didnt change the resolution. It has been working without any problems for several months now, so i dont feel the need to do any additional troubleshooting.
