AMD R9 290X and 4 Monitors

Hello, I am working on building a flight simulator and I need to get 4 1080p monitors set up. The GPU that I am looking at is an Asus R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 and I am not sure if it will support running all 4 monitors at once. I couldn't find much info about a 4 monitor setup with eyefinity and I keep hearing about active adapters and DP hubs which I am not sure if I require. Will the setup work if I just plug in cables from the GPU to the monitors?

The GPU has:

2 X DVI-D

1 X HDMI

1 X DP

The monitors that I will be buying have DVI, HDMI, and DP.

That card will drive 4 displays simultaneously no problem. The issue with active adapters existed with prior models. Just make sure you have the display port output connected to the displayport input on the monitor (don't use an adapter) and you can then drive the other 3 displays using DVI or HDMI.

Just FYI, eyefinity across 4 screens isn't ideal for gaming or flight sims as you have a bezel right in the middle of your display. It works technically, but you might want to go 5 or 3. You can actually drive 5 displays off that card, but then you'd need an MST Hub (support up to 3 1080p displays from a single Displayport).

Thank you for clearing it up! The 4 monitors are for the 4 windows in a typical Cessna cockpit.

I have a question... out of curiosity: When you're actually flying a plane presumably you're sitting on the left side of the cockpit (I think!?), in which case your "straight ahead" view is actually out of the second to left window. So when you're coming in to land (or whatever), the runway is right down the second to left window? My question is, does the flight sim present the view like this? Or does it centre your view as if you're sitting directly in the middle of the aircraft, in which case the runway would be smack-bang in the middle of the bezel (which I would have thought would be both irritating and unrealistic)?

Th simulator shows you on the left side of the cockpit. The build is actually for a University which is how I got the money to build the machine.
