I just got my custom pre built pc today, i also got a used 22 inch 1920 by 1080 monitor from hp. I plugged everything and played wow just to test it out. Everything was working good i was playing maybe for 5 minutes until the monitor went to sleep. I couldnt wake it back up with the keyboard or my mouse. I control alt deleted to my desktop, it was showing then i went back to the game and it went to sleep again. My power options are on never on high performance. I thought the monitor was the problem so i switched to my old 20 inch dell monitor 1600 by 900, and it started working! i played other games to make sure it didnt sleep while gaming and it never slept. So i was thinking it must be the other monitor. Then i had an idea that it also might be the resolution, so i plugged my 22 inch monitor back and put the res to 1600 by 900 and wala never slept for any games, i tried a couple. So whats going on here anybody have an idea? I was going to get a new monitor but the res only works at 1600 by 900 the highest why is that. i tried higher res with the 22 inch and it slept also, only stays on 1600 by 900. So what is going on is it my monitor, graphics card or something else? Sorry for the long post i need help on this. My specs are below

Core i5 6400
8gb Ram
r9 390 8gb
600 evga psu

i also reinstalled and formatted windows 10 and no change.

Solution
i found problem its the cable im using its vga. My gpu does not have vga so i was using a a vga to hdmi adapter cable. So the hdmi goes into the gpu and the vga goes in my monitor. My monitor doesnt have hdmi cable. I tested out my brothers benq 27 inch monitor to make sure it wasnt me gpu or anything. I tried the benq monitor with my cable vga to hdmi with heaven gpu stress test on extreme full screen 1920 by 1080 and within 10 mins it went to sleep and couldnt wake it up. Then i tried an hdmi cable that i have to see if it will work. I did the heaven stress test for 30 mins straight on the same settings with the hdmi on the benq and it worked no sleep! Then i did it again for 30 more mins straight and no sleep! So it was the cable adapter i was using since the 390 doesnt support vga it made it keep sleeping when playing which makes sense. My hp 22 monitor has a displayport at least so i got one coming tomorrow to see if it will work, hopefully.

Ah, you did not say you were using an adapter for the video cable, that would have been the first thing to get rid of as a test.
