Discussion AMD Radeon GPUs - - - Adrenalin versus Pro drivers ?

Long time user of ATI and AMD Radeon graphic cards. What makes you decide to use one or the other type of drivers in Windows (not Server edition) and/or Linux ?
Stick with the normal drivers. Being an old ATI user I'm sure you remember as well the custom drivers that used to exist, I can't remember the name ATM but one in particular was pretty popular.
Those days are dead and everywhere I read said to stick with the official main drivers. I know that's not particularly helpful for the vs aspect of your question but wanted to share what I read and reminisce the days of brining up custom drivers with a fellow old ATI user.

I think the choice largely depends on the actual GPU, only some can use either version, IIRC.

For the vast majority of users and use-cases, the "regular" drivers are more than adequate.

My first experience with ATI was dreadful. I got one from a dealer next door in Toronto for 386 or 486 system but drivers were so awful it was scarcely useful so had to return it. Drivers were no better until AMD took over.

I work with some photo/graphic programs that can use GPU for processing. AI. Image Enhancer for instance and you can choose between CPU and GPU.

That is different than choosing what drivers to use with a particular GPU. As I recall, the old Radeon VII, for example, could use both consumer and pro (like those used with the workstation class GPUs) drivers.
