holy, Crap I was a huge ATI fan back in the 9800pro/XT days aswell as X800XT days but with the 8800 Series I ended building a QX6850 3-way 8800ultra. I might need to upgrade in the future if we manage to get more DX10 games.

The 256bit wall on the 48xx must of been pushed up little to take advantage of that 2GB on the X2 release. Maybe were going to see a 384bit or a 512bit bus?

256bit wall is non existent. The memory is GDDR5 which allows higher frequencies and bandwidth while using a lower amount of power.

Oh and hanibal, I think thats only for a real CF connection Since this is 2 actual GPUs on one PCB they each can be made to have full access to the entire amount of memory, kinda like how they had a 3870X2 with 1GB memory.

nvidia would need to include (again) some benchmark cheat-codes in their GTX280 just so they can say the performance is comparable.

AMD is going for most powerfull card, so doesn't save on memory and puts 2GB. If they charged for them by their power, these cards could be the most expensive ones.. It will be interesting to see the price, and if it is the rumoured $500, then I wonder about availability..

it's GDDR5 dude...256bit is more than enough.

iv been waiting patiently for this, AMD have done a grand job with the 4850 and the 4870 and im sure that this x2 will blow the whole market wide open. just make sure you get one quick because Samsung is the only company that make the memory chips and for how long they can produce these chips is a question that makes me wonder... for the price this is a steal and i will pre-order mine asap!

If 2-gig card, then there might be a 1-gig 4870 also coming. This feels like the 9700-9800 days. Kinda unimaginable. And I still think the basic architecture has room to evolve and/or refine and/or finetune; not to mention the tweaks and oclox. This looks like it's right off the scale.

Only 25 more sleeps :) until the next release party.
