[citation][nom]mousemonkey[/nom]So you were the one who gave the thumbs down. And no, I didn't forget but after seeing the numbers it's quite obvious that a single card cannot run three screens at decent framerates with all details turned up and a single card still needs a dongle or a DP enabled monitor whereas the Nv solution just requires SLi (which I for one would use anyway in a gaming rig).[/citation]

Unfortunately this means that using 3-screen Nvidia will have micro-stutter issues in some games like this -

A 5870 is good enough for 5760x1080 resolution, one can only imagine a 6870 will be more than enough for most games at high settings.

They can release all the hardware they want but if the programming on the drivers are not up to par then why invest in this new Tech if its going to mean more screen tearing and on screen artifacts.... better ramp up that driver department soon...

[citation][nom]barmaley[/nom]Perhaps we should wait until benchmarks and reviews are posted?[/citation]

Why wait? Nailing coffins is so much fun.

Good, this, or nVidia's new platform to counter, will be a good jump from my 4870.

When I built me 4870 machine I had the intention of creating a three year platform, and it looks like it did its part. What a great card.

I feel like such a tool, but I've been considering selling off my 5870s for two of the next gen cards.

I'll wait for benchmarks first. I'm really hoping ATI has stepped up their game and included sideport on these cards to increase crossfire scaling.

Good news for my ears, glad AMD still has the ball rolling in development. I cant wait to see some numbers for these cards because it just might be about time to replace my 4670 even though it has been doing such a great job, but its all about the numbers.

Ouch, this hurts. I was getting used to my 5850 already even though Ive had it for 10 months now, it still felt "new"!! This hurts knowing that its on its way out soon enough!

Normally I like to buy every second generation of GPU, but my 4850 is still running strong and by fall I don't think it will need replacing. Maybe by next spring when the prices have dropped I'll pick up an mid-upper range card.

I know this isn't going to happen but I would love to see a competing technology to NVidia's 3D Vision Surround, that's the only thing really sinking the decision to purchase a 4*0 card.

This is a panic move to counter the gtx 460. You want a super fast dx11 card that can overclock like no tomorrow ? Its already available = The gtx 460.
ATI, oops I mean AMD fanboys seem desperate for Nvidia to crumble. Pathetic

Hopefully the new series will yield some decent speed improvements. From the last series the gain on the lower end line up was DX11. The 4870 was replace by the 5770; which cost more and performed the same. The 4890 was replaced by the 5830; which cost more and performed the same. So hopefully we see more performance per $, better energy efficiency, or both.

[citation][nom]bv90andy[/nom]you mean AMD, ATI is dead, remember? /_\My 5750 works great with most games, I think I'm skipping this step.[/citation]
Actually its just Radeon now, not AMD.

I hope nvidia jumps on the wagon too... the more competition, the funner things get.

Finally going to see some hd5870 price drops then :)

Btw, the gtx460 is good, but a hd5850 overclocked to all hell is probably the best buy, as it was nearly a whole year ago now.

460 is already getting a huge price drop I see. How much did you (over)pay for yours. xD

1gb ddr3 for an entry level card... for those who remember the gpu industry's sordid history, does this not blow anyone's mind?
