Hi
I have a desktop with following config:

Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: GA-890GPA-UD3H
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 12288MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 11772MB RAM
Page File: 1119MB used, 22429MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 6.03.9600.16384 64bit Unicode

i always get error "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I got this in Windows 7 64 bit also.

I would like to buy a new Graphics card compatible with my motherboard. I was thinking of Nvidia Geforce GT 640 wtih 2 GB

Games I play : Max Payne 3
Call of Duty the latest one.
There are other games also which use intense graphics.

My budget is not more than 6k.

Please suggest.

yeah i forgot to mention. My motherboard has ATI Radeon HD 4290 builtin.

When I install driver for 6670, 4290 gets exclamation and vice versa. I dont know how to combine both of them. Anyway please suggest me a new card.

Will DDR5 graphics card work in my mother board?

There will always be someone to help out a brother on Tom.

Hello shahidr,

Your MOBO is:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3516#ov
And has "2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 interface with ATI CrossFireX/ Hybrid CrossFireX technology support" So yes, a GDDR5 graphics card will work without a hitch.

What do you mean by the budget of 6k? 6000 USD? Are you trying to build a new system or just a new graphics card? Please clarify, since i'm confused with the 6k being mentioned here.

And you haven't mentioned which PSU model you have in your system. Please mention that as well since graphics derive power from it.

As for this error you're having, then it's TDR = Timeout Detection and Recovery. A feature in windows vista/7/8 designed to restart a crashed video adapter without a hard reset. Reasons for that are usually hardware related but they're generally:
1) Driver not working properly. First measure is to do a clean uninstall of AMD drivers with Driver Sweeper:
http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/driver_sweeper_download.html

Restart and reinstall the latest video drivers and see if the issue goes away or not.

2) Excessive heat on graphics card. Measure the temps use HW monitor\MSI afterburner or some other tool. Clean the dirt on the card etc if any. Dirt is the mortal enemy of electronic components.
3) Improper\unstable Overclocking of G.card.
4) If the card is clean without dirt etc then it could be a dying card or a faulty one or the MOBO slot is dodgy. Put in another slot to confirm MOBO is alright.
5) Power supply is inadequate to feed the card at gaming loads.

Hi Shadihr,

I don't have the solution but I am also facing the same issue with 6670 on Windows 8.1 and was wondering were you able to resolve the issue or replacing the card is only reliable way to get ride of the issue.

Thanks,
Ripu Daman

Hi Ripu

I was not able to resolve the issue in Windows 8.1

I had to downgrade to Windows 7 64 bit to make it work.
Install all the updates.
