Hello! I have an HP Pavillion dv6 6115ev laptop with AMD Radeon HD 6770M with an Intel HD 3000 switchable graphics and i am trying to make a clean format and install either windows 8 or 7. The problem is when i install the os and try to install various GPU drivers either form the HP support site or other sources the screen goes black and then when i try to boot it pops up the windows restore utility and it rolls back the systems so i can boot. Thats on win7. In win 8 it just freezes with a black screen and a repetitive sound. That happens only when i install AMD drivers, if i install the intel the laptop works fine. I have tried over 10 different driver versions even those from 2011 that the official hp site suggests. Is there any case that my GPU is failing? If so, is there anything i can try to check that?

What do you mean by "other sources"?
Install the GPU drivers only after downloading the latest Intel HD graphics driver from intel's site and AMD ones from AMD site only. Choose the graphics card models and OS manually, and then install the intel first and then the AMD.
See if it helps.

Sources like leshcat. Its confirmed, every time i try to instal any AMD driver system crashes. It will either get me a black screen or a "sound" freeze. The thing is, my laptop cant get 6770m drivers installed correctly and i dont know why, only thing i can imagine is gpu failure.:??:

Have you tried downloading from AMD's site directly as I suggested above? If not, try the whole procedure as I had stated.
Also, try to install windows 8 only if and after you can see windows 7 up and running perfectly. I assume your laptop came before 8 and had 7 installed and it will be best optimized for 7. If 7 shows problems, it means there is a genuine driver problem and there is little chance that 8 will work in that case.
Lastly, recent CPU and GPU failure is extremely rare and happens mostly because of bad handling (like liquid spillage, using unauthorized chargers, dropping etc.), so you don't have to worry about it :)

I have tried various driver versions from and site, but the outcome is only crashes and black screens though. I ve tried all the factory driver versions in win 7 which is the native os, every related download from amd site, leshcat drivers... Installation doesn't report any error or warning, it displays the green tick but in the next reboot I know windows are going to freeze in win logo and then run a system restore and here I am again without drivers. I am on the brink of selling the laptop for scrap.

hi i had the same problem, so i tried many ways to check that , finally i took my hp dv6 6199 to a repair center
they first changed the fan because it was failed on cooling and then they picked up (ati radeon 6770 hd) chip from the board and then reinstalled it , that's what they told me ,my laptop work with intel 3000 graphic and recocnise the ati chip, but yet the driver dosnot installed completely (ATI display driver):??:
