Hello everyone, I am getting lower than expected fps in games that I am playing with my 6870. In Crysis with very high settings, no AA and 1980x1080 res I am getting only around 30 fps and it drops to below 30 often. In Crysis 2 I get around 40fps and it drops to around 30 on hardcore settings 1080p without the dx11 or texture pack. Benchmarks for my card show alot more fps in these games. I have the latest drivers for my graphics card and the games are updated by steam. What could be causing the low fps? I was thinking maybe the psu or the cpu.

more ram. also, for crysis 1/warhead, right click on the icon and select "run in DX9 mode". you wont notice any difference visually but it will run a hell of a lot better. OC'ing the processor may help. To determine a CPU bottleneck, drop the graphics detail/resolution down, taking the load off the gpu and more on the CPU, if you see no or little performance increase, then you have a cpu bottleneck.

you say benchmarks for your card show more fps, but these benchmarks are more likely conducted with an i7 cpu. that cpu (955 BE) is a bottleneck, I've owned one and I know. Try raising the multiplier to 19 which should give you 3.8ghz. Also try maybe looking into getting a decent brand name psu

oh, i didnt even notice the psu lol, that is a piece of crap, remove it before your computer blows up. heres a review of a visiontek 700w unit http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/09/01/visiontek_700w_power_supply_review/9 a 700w visiontek unit couldn't even produce half of that power within ATX specs. So your 500w unit is probably doing 250w realisticly which is not enough. replace your PSU before you damage the rest of your system.

Ya, I really should have spend more for a decent psu, I've been getting hyperthread sync flood errors lately do you think that could be caused by the psu not giving enough power to the cpu?
