The PC I will be building is around £600 (GBP) And I am looking for a video card that will deliver a good FPS on most games but isnt overpriced. I am told that the R9 380 Will do a small amount less than the GTX 970 But for a much lower price, is this true or is the 380 a bad card to go for?

The difference between a R9 380 and a R9 390 or a GTX 970 is HUGE. However so is the price.

The R9 380 beats out the GTX960 in most benchmarks and is the better deal at that price point.

You won't be able to max out all games at 1080P with an R9 380 but you will have a very good experience. For the price its great. I would however recommend the 4GB version. I say go for the R9 380 unless you really want to dish out the bucks for the next step up.
