AMD Radeon RX 480 vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 in DX12

Hello folks!

I'm kinda a noob to PC stuff, but I'm just hearing alot of people talking about the "future", DX12 and Vulkan...
I'm looking for a card that will suit both DX11 and DX12 in the price range of £300.
In my country, the Sapphire Radeon RX 480 (I was waiting for the MSI version) is in the price range of £240, while the GTX 1060 costum boards come in at £250 - £280.

My plan is that the card should serve me atleast 2 years from now.

I'm gaming in 1080p on a 60Hz monitor.

1060 > 480. Currently vulkan does have Amd cards taking over higher end nvidia stuff. I'd still maybe go 1060. No one knows what will take off/stick and the 1060 is more powerful and the better option imo

They're close enough in performance that you'll be happy with whichever card you buy. Seriously, as long as the performance is near the 60FPS mark, the 1060 only beats the 480 by maybe 5FPS or less. You only see it beating the 480 by 10-20FPS when both cards are already topping 100+ FPS.

^ the above is completely true.
for the 1080p@60Hz both card will do the job for the next couple of years and more.
The choice should be based on:
* price
* additional features
the US price for the Sapphire RX 480 8GB is 260. for the nice custom cards from EVGA and Zotac, 1060 starts at 250$ - should be same for europe.

1060 runs cooler, quieter, has more overclock headroom. also has geforce experience and shadowplay.
Cant think of anything usefull on AMD side.
Again, for your purpose, any of them will do the job.

they are both excellent cards both capable of pushing 90fps + however the 1060 in gaming bench marks has came out the winner by 12% / 13% over the RX 480 8GB Version. of course in some games the RX 480 beats the 1060 hands down, its just the bigger picture when I mention the 12% can be found anywhere on the net..

DX12 is not a problem for Pascal. In fact on most benchmarks, Pascal cards beat Polaris slightly. Even on AOTS, the 1060 beats the 480 by 2-4 frames. Up to 10 frames with OC.

Vulkan really only works for one game. If Doom 2016 is the only game you will play for the rest of your life and 120fps is not good enough for you and you need that extra 20fps... then by all means get the AMD.

The reasons why I would go with Nvidia:
1060 over clocks like a mother father. Up to 2,000 mhz as some have seen
Cool as Ice and little stress on PSU and PCI slot
Shadowplay
Better DX11 performance. D11 is still prominent and will be around for at least another 5 years.

Thinking ahead is good. But honestly, gpus in the $200 range become obsolete rather quickly.
