[SOLVED] AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series with Intel Mobo/CPU

Hello all. It's been since early 2000's since I've built a PC. My son wanted to build one together so here I am. First things first. Everything minus the GPU has been bought. Below is what we have.

• MSI MPG Z690 Edge WiFi DDR4 Gaming Motherboard
• Intel Core i5-12600K - Core i5 12th Gen Alder Lake 10-Core (6P+4E) 3.7 GHz LGA 1700
• Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 LED Desktop Memory
• Corsair RMX Series, RM850x, 850 Watt, 80+ Gold Certified, Fully Modular Power Supply
• Samsung 980 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe Gen 4 Gaming M.2 Internal Solid State Hard Drive
• LIAN LI PC-O11 Dynamic Razer Edition Black

I'd like to put in a current series GPU. I was looking at the Nvidia 3050/3060 series. I quickly became aware of the large price inflation and limited availability of current GPU's. With that being said I took a peek at the AMD Radeon's. They appear to be a little cheaper and easier to get. The RX 6600 seems competitively priced and available compared to the 3050/3060 GPU's.

Now to the question. Are there any issues, concerns or caveats to paring an AMD GPU with an Intel chipset/cpu? Do the two play well together? If there are any potential issues or drawbacks, please point them out.

There is no issue pairing a amd graphics card with an intel motherboard. Or vice versa.
You are good there.
It seems that nvidia 3050 cards are hit by scalpers.
I might suggest that you get the build started using the integrated graphics of the processor.
Take your time in finding a graphics card at a reasonable price.
One option is to sigh up for the newegg shuffle.
It offers daily graphics cards at a modest markup over msrp.
It is usually accompanied by another product which you may or may not want.

You may also want to see what the upcoming intel arc graphics cards due to launch this quarter.

On your build list, You are good.
I have a few thoughts.

First of all, you are smart to get Son involved. Good for bonding and Son's education.
It will keep you from needing to be the tech support guy.

On the ram, buy a 2 x 16gb kit. intel is dual channel and 4 stick kits are more expensive and 4 sticks are harder for a motherboard to manage.
3200 speed is fine, but I think a 3600 cl 18 speed kit might cost about the same.
Son might like the RGB bling, but a basic lpx or g,skil kit is less expensive.

Good pick on a psu with a 10 year warranty.

980 pro is an excellent and reliable product.
It is marginally a better performer than the base 980 or the 370
OK if you have the budget.
I think I would consider a 2tb 970 evo plus instead.
Do not be confused by ssd vendor synthetic benchmarks.
Performance varies little in the real world.
These guys could not tell the difference

What is your plan for a cpu cooler?

Love the quality of lian li cases.
The one you picked is fine, but it has a 155mm height limit for air coolers.
I dislike liquid cooling if it is not necessary.
OTOH, the O11 AIR MINI is a more compact design which does very well for air cooling.
