System:

Motherboard -- MSI MPG x570 Gaming Edge
PSU -- Antec HCG750 Gold
CPU -- Ryzen 5 3600
Memory -- Patriot Viper 4 16gb
GPU -- AMD RX 5700 XT Challenger D 8G OC

I built my system almost 2 years ago (during the initial lockdown) and everything has been running fine until the other day the screen was black. The computer seemed to be running, though, and restarting shows the bootup/bios screen but then screen goes black before displaying anything else.

I can boot into safe mode and everything works perfectly. If I uninstall the drivers (through device manager and the using DDU) the computer boots up normally (using the Microsoft Basic Display adapter driver). I've downloaded the latest AMD drivers and part way through installing them the screen goes black and I have to start all over.

I'm assuming that the GPU is dead since it works when not using the drivers (although even using the MS display adapter the monitor is still plugged into the GPU) -- does that sound right?

My quest ion is I've contacted ASRock and they suggested reinstalling windows -- which I'm hesitant to do because its seems like a lot of work and I don't see what that will change (am I wrong?) -- but they've also send me an RMA form. Does anyone have experience with ASRock with the warranty/timeframe?

You don't have to reinstall. If you have a free partition you can install windows 10 onto it. Your just looking to see if it's a software issue. Install win10, load drivers, does it work? If it does then you know it's a software issue and you can try reinstalling windows, etc. If it fails on the new build just delete the windows folder on the other disk and know that it's a hardware issue.

Finally getting back to this. I've RMA'd the GPU and got a new one from AsRock. Installed the new card and same problem. I reset windows (with 'Reset This PC') -- which seems to have wiped everything but my files. Worked just fine but only on the MS Display Adapter. I downloaded the newest drivers and about 20% into the installation the screen went black again.

I can try a full format/reinstall of windows 10 but at this point I'm not sure that would help. What else could be causing this issue?

I'll try a different pcie slot to see if that works. Just to be clear, I'm using the computer just fine right now with the monitor plugged into the video card, only all the drivers have been removed so it's just using the microsoft basic display adapter -- but physically plugged in to the card. That's why I'm thinking that the computer is fine but something about the gpu or drivers is the issue (I could be totally wrong here though).

For plugging in to remote desktop, how would that work since there is no display immediately after bios so I can't even log in (honest question, not trying to be a smartass)?
Finally, what is 4g support and what is rdp? Not familiar with either.

Thanks.
