News AMD RX 9070 XT GDDR6 sources have a small effect on performance — testing reveals 1 - 2% delta

This is kinda funny, because I've just been trying to find out whether any RX 9070's (non-XT) use Samsung GDDR6. It supposedly runs cooler, which is significant, with VRAM temps being one of the card's weaknesses. Whether I like it or not, I'm probably to end up with a card having SK Hynix, which I'm then going to see if I can down-clock to 19 Gbps - potentially more than twice as bad a performance penalty as if I could've just gotten it with Samsung memory.

Once the card is out-of-warranty, I might see what mods I can do to lower VRAM temps, and then maybe I can clock it back up to its specified frequency.

The article said:
the 9070 XT is one of the most elusive new GPUs released in 2025, with any models of the card still unavailable anywhere for less than $150 over its $599 MSRP.
Well, I think they burned through inventories imported before tariffs took effect, pretty quickly. The exemption on PC components isn't a total exemption, either, as far as I understand. And I'd assume there are also some card manufacturers taking advantage of the high-demand situation.

But, it's not actually that hard to find. I think it became generally available sooner after launch than the first RTX 5000 models did.

Right now, Newegg has 5 models in stock: brand new and sold by Newegg. The cheapest is $730, which is still a significant markup, but less than the stated amount of $150.

Then my Newegg searches are broken because I've been checking daily for weeks and there is never anything cheaper than about $800 unless you count open box items. I just checked and still 799.99 for new anything other than open box items. Extremely limited availability, very over priced, and virtually no selection at all.

Ugh. The one time I didn't include a link... I swear, when I wrote that, there was a model selling for $729.99. It was XT, but I don't remember anything else about it. Obviously, it's sold out or re-priced, now.

Actually, I think it might've been this. The name does seem familiar and the price matches. So, it was probably still in stock, when I wrote that.

I agree that the lowest price is now ~$800. Keep your eyes peels and good luck!

FWIW, here's a non-XT that's only $600 ($50 above MSRP). It's in stock now, and I've also seen it in stock @ this price a couple days ago:
