News AMD RX Vega 64 runs Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at well over 30FPS in Linux with RADV driver

It would be interesting to see if this could be ported to Windows, maybe part of the Nimez drivers or something. It would allow some people using older cards the ability to play these newer games that require ray tracing, even if its not at the highest settings.

This, right here folks, is an example of why Linux is the future of gaming. .... its why Valve is so heavily invested in Linux.

No corporate hold-backs. No Microsoft limitations. No driver cut-offs. No more artificial planned obsolescence. A modder can easily do what a modder wants to do, compared to its harder to do things on locked up platforms.

We don't need the corporations. The corporations need us.

Not sure what this has to do with Microsoft, seems like AMD could open source their Windows drivers if they wanted to.

emulate_rt was needed for me to run Black Myth:Wukong (and its benchmark tool) on both a Vega 8 iGPU and my old Polaris (RX480 8 Gb) - it wouldn't load in DX12 mode without it.
Enabling RT at its lowest setting turned it into a slideshow on the iGPU, and crashed the RX480. But, it allowed me to actually play it on my older rigs.
Of course, running it in 720p 25% FSR looked awful, but kudos to the devs, it was actually both playable and visible. I merely got strong Tomb Raider (VGA) vibes...

I never imagined that my video would be picked up for a Toms Hardware article! I knew this was something more people needed to know about though. Thank you for spreading the word/vid! Also like and subscribe 😛
Oh yes, like and subscribe to you for content that you literally stole. When Indiana Jones released, another YouTuber made a video about ray tracing emulation on Vega & I know for a fact that is where you got the content for your video from. You didn't even credit the guy, Toms Hardware failed to credit him too. #THEFT

I mean yeah I link to it in the description and comments

They may be legally prevented from doing this due to proprietary third party components in their driver. E.g. their open source Linux driver doesn't support HDMI 2.1, apparently due to IP issues. I could see directx being an issue as well.

Precisely!

Not true. The Internet was first developed by US Navy coders on Unix... The modern digital world exists solely because of Linux. Tech Corporations only exist because of Linux. RHEL is the foundation by which all routers, switches, and servers are operating on at this very second.. Nothing tech would exist without it. Thank you Linus Torvalds! Without him, our digital world wouldn't exist.. And he did it at the age of 21.

I think he was more referring to corporate investment into infrastructure. The underlying software was free to them, not the hardware the internet runs on.

Could they? Considering that AMD drivers in Linux are open source but Nvidia's are not, there may be an external reason for proprietary drivers on Windows. Maybe they don't get official validation if open source?
Microsoft will not allow any open source drivers that change how the OS functions or interact with their core OS software or peripheral software. Linux is open source by it's creator.. That's why Linux is the best OS currently available.

Gotcha. That part is true. But the corporations hardware wouldn't work even remotely as well without Linux.

It would be interesting if AMD utilized this type of software in future driver updates to improve their Ray Tracing capabilities. And could possibly surpass Nvidia's hardware based RT abilities..🤔 AMD becomes the defacto king of RT because of open sourced software.. One can only hope and wonder.💩🤯

Not really symbiotic. Future plc can't really trap you the way Apple can trap you, or Google, Microsoft, and many others. When they trap you it's an abusive relationship. It stops being money freely earned and products freely purchased/kept due specifically to superiority or a niche use case like the one highlighted above.

You could I suppose have moderator bans but Future plc isn't just keeping you around just to extract money from you, or really I should say, Future plc isn't forcing you to stay around just to extract money from you because you're trapped.
