the 8700K will outperform the 2700X in most pure gaming scenarios....; the up to ~10-15% performance disparity will be less evident, however, with any GPU less than a 1070-equivalent.. The desire to live stream while gaming is also a potential plus for the extra cores/threads of the 2700X. (The 9700K normally overclocks higher, outperforming the 8700K, but, the 8700K's hyperthreading is a plus in my book!)

Probably i7 for gaming. If you happen to do some other tasks like video editing, streaming, or other productivity tasks, there could be potential benefits of R7 2700x, but if its mostly gaming, then i7-8700/i7-8700k for sure.
