Pretty cool that flagship performance (on a mainstream platform) will be come entry level performance in the space of ~3 years.

Although the outlook for selling my 6700K when I get around to upgrading seems to be getting more and more dire :p

Insert Pawn Stars meme here...

But will either processor (3100/3300X) overclocked actually provide higher min/average FPS in games than the i7-7700K ...overclocked? (I place as much value/emphasis on Geekbench score as Userbench scores...)

(Either way, no one is choosing 4c/8t beyond for austere budget home systems/children's gaming systems...; I'll keep my 7700K as a home theater/surfing system/BF1 system for several more years...; then it will be a TrueNAS rig)

I am sure an overclocked Ryzen 3100 can definitely beat intel i7 7700k and i5 9400f. Time to upgrade my i5.

Without knowing the exact settings of both this is just fluff. If the i7 was stock and the Ryzen was overclocked to its max it should in theory beat the i7 since Zen 2 is mostly on par with Core per clock. However most 7700Ks hit near 5GHz pretty easily and until we see most Zen 2 don't go nearly that far.

Why does the i7-7700K cost so much?? It's $560 at Amazon and Newegg!!
What's so special about this CPU??

And it's being beaten by a $120 AMD! Am I missing something??

The fact that the 3300x performs so much better than the 3100 suggests that ZEN 3 will have a greatly improved IPC, since Zen 3 will have a unified L3 cache. It was explained on this site that the Zen 2 architecture with a split L3 cache suffers added latency when the OS scheduler switches a thread from one core to another that is in the other CCX. The great performance of the 3300x with its unified L3 cache makes me excited about ZEN 3 !
