Question AMD Ryzen 3 and Motherboards Bios Update

Hi,

On PC Part Picker, when I select an AMD CPU with most motherboards, it says that I could need to update the BIOS and possibly use an older CPU. How true is this? At the moment, I am thinking of using a Ryzen 3 2200G with the Gigabyte GA-320M-S2H.

to update bios, you need a working cpu that work with the bios.
why not get a b450 motherboard?

No way of knowing for sure without knowing what version of BIOS the motherboard comes with. If you did need to update the BIOS yes you would need an older CPU.

100% true, happened with Ryzen 2 as well.

To avoid a repeat of the Ryzen 1 to Ryzen 2 transition fiasco, AMD set up a 'Ryzen 3000-ready' program where board manufacturers get stickers to stick to the boxes of motherboards that have been pre-loaded with BIOS compatible with Ryzen 3. That will hopefully make it much easier for people to identify compatible boards so they don't have to go through the trial-and-error or borrow-old-CPU process to get started.
