AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x or stick with Intel i7 4790k?

Hi,

Now that the dust has settled a little on the new ryzen cpus I was wondering if anyone has a definitive answer for me based on something concrete. I'm currently running a gaming rig with an overclocked (4.5ghz) i7 4790k with a gtx 1070. I have bumped recent intel upgrades as performance differences were minimal in my opinion. So are the amd ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x worth an upgrade to newer architecture? I really only require the cpu for gaming. Thanks.

I'd stay with the 4790K, its still a excellent CPU and even better with aftermarket cooling with a decent overclock. If you have the itch to upgrade then maybe a GPU upgrade?

I wouldn't upgrade in your case, the haswell is still fine for gaming, especially running at 4.5 ghz. You wouldn't notice any better performance going to the Ryzen 5.
