I'm planning on building a PC and can't really decide which CPU to buy, the Ryzen 5 2600 or the 2600X. I don't really have much experience with building PC's and I wouldn't want to OC.

For any answer I am very thankful!

What is your budget? The price on the 2600X has gone up recently and is sometimes double or more the price of the 1600 AF. If you were going to get the 2600, you should get the $85 1600 AF (YD1600BBAFBOX) instead if you are on a tight budget. The 1600 AF is a slightly slower 2600 with performance and fps differences between the 1600 AF and 2600X being around 4-9% depending on the workload or games. Just remember to buy good $25-40 120mm tower CPU cooler if you get the 1600 AF or 2600, since the...

I was thinking of getting the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX (ATX)
It's a good motherboard.

As for the CPU the 2600X comes with a better cooler but it really comes down to the prices where you are. If it's a small difference then grab the 2600X. The 3600X may be within your budget and does perform better then the 2600/X so it may be something worth looking into and is supported on the Tomahawk MAX board out of the box.

I was in the same boat between the 2600 and 2600x and from what I gathered if your not OC'ing the 2600 is a little less expensive with slightly less performance that you won't notice in the real world.

I'm super happy with my 2600. My main advise would be to get a nvme for your OS.
