Didn't Amd end up downgrading the Pcie to gen 4 on some of their 7000 series laptop chips? The article says gen 5 but fairly sure it is gen 4 on Phoenix ie: 7740hs, Dragon Range is still gen 5 ie: 7745hs

In all fairness, PCIe4 is more t han enough on a laptop. PCIe5 is yet to show real advantage and is more power hungry. I'm totally on board with staying on PCIe4 for the time being even on desktops for that matter.

AMD also silently downgraded its Ryzen 7040 "Phoenix" CPUs specs few months ago, I think in FEB 2023, ahead of its laptop debut. PCI Gen 5 was removed and GPU clocks were also reduced.

No reason was given for the change in specs though by AMD.

AMD updated the product pages of three Phoenix chips which now mention lower GPU clocks. AMD's top Phoenix CPU, the Ryzen 9 7940HS has been downgraded by -200 MHz from, 3.0 GHz to 2.8 GHz and the same is true for the Ryzen 7 7840HS and the Ryzen 5 7640HS.

So it looks like none of the AMD Phoenix CPUs will be hitting the previously mentioned 3.0 GHz out of the box. But nothing is stopping from overclocking these chips.

Andreas Schilling of Hardwareluxx also pointed earlier out that PCIe Gen 5.0 functionality that was promised for the chip lineup has also been removed.
