The x3d cpu's are not great productivity cpu's so I don't get your post. A locked Intel i7 cost less, is a great all around cpu and doesn't use much juice when gaming.

That's nice, but I don't want an i7, Ryzen 7 or any chip not on the 'leading edge'.

So for what I want, I'm choosing between I9 and Ryzen 9. And it's actually a neck and neck race in terms of performance. One does better on some software, one does better on other software.

The difference is power consumption. The I9 is literally a space heater (uses 300w of power according to Intel's specs), the Ryzen 9 uses about half of that.

That is how I can justify the Ryzen 9. Note I'm not an AMD fanboy (my current machine is 8th gen I7 for the record), I just want what I think will deliver good value for me (and only me for that matter).
