I am a little confused. I have seen at a local computer place with MBs described as AM2 and 940 compatible for the same MB. Is this correct? The reason I ask is that my son and I are going to do a hardware swap taking my slower AM2 processor but his current CPU cooler is listed as being for a 940 but not an AM2. Will it work with the AM2 processor? Any help would be appreciated. We did buy a new mb but and we have everything else, but we just may need to get a new cooler if his will not work.

Socket AM2 has 940 pins, yet it is not compatible with Socket 940.

Socket AM2: Single HTT, DDR-2 memory interface
Socket 940: Triple HTT, DDR-1 memory interface
