I was just wondering as I recently bought a new 3500+ athlon 64 and I think it is running quite warm. I have put a Cooler Master Hyper 6 Heatsink on it and it runs at around 55C under load and about 50C when it is idling. I looked on the AMD site and it doesnt say what they should be running at. does any one know what temp it should be running at. Any help with this will be appreciated.

Thx

I would say that that's slightly on the warm side. I own an AMD64 3000+, and it is consistently between 30 and 35 celsius idle, and rarely ever reaches 40+ on load. I would venture to say that there may potentially be an issue with where the processor meets the HSF. Did you use the stock compound? I would recommend (if you wanna go through this) using arctic silver compound instead of what comes with it (which would involve the tedious task of reseating the processor). Beyond that, what do you have setup in the way of case fans? Do you know what your ambient case temps are? This could potentially be having a negative impact on your proc temp.

In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday.

What are your idle temps? How are you monitoring temps? What case cooling do you have (#fans, size, location, intake and exhaust)? What case? What are your case temps? Please provide complete system setup! We need more info to answer your question!

My 3500+ runs um i think low 40s and when oc'd to 2.4, it was running low 50s on stock cooler at full load. I'll try to double check this tonight.

Current machines running F@H:
AMD: [64 3500+][64 3000+][2500+][2000+][1.3x1][366]
Intel: [X 3.0][P4 3.0][P4 2.4x5][P4 1.4]

My idle temps are around 50C and I monitor them with Nvidia monitor and I also check them in my BIOS. I have an 80mm fan on te side of my case that sux air in and a 120mm at the back that sux it out. My pwer supply also sux air out as well I think it is a Antec true power 550W. My case is a Xeon superflower and my system temp is about the same as my cpu temps My pwer supply also makes the top of my case quite warm would this be the cause of some problems as well. I hope all this helps.

Thx

open the case and touch the sink. Does it feel too hot? If no, then your board is probably reporting false reading. and if your system is stable, I just would not care.

You are probably right Pat. Since he's got the side of the case off anyhow, he also might want to see how that affects temps. I know my Asus board does a good job on temps, but the msi and gigabyte boards read high. How about yours. (I know how much you love Asus, but they do do the odd thing right)

On my Gigabyte k8nf-9, it report aroung 30 in BIOS, and it is rock stable after that so I guess that it is ok. I did try a bit of overclocking(2.3Ghz, from 1.8Ghz), got it at 37, but since I have a small case with only adequate venting, and no need for more power than my 3000+(939) has stock, I just set it back to custom speed.

On my Soltek k8an2e-gr board, my 3000+ (754) was about 39,iirc. Rock stable there all the way, so I stop thinking about temp there too!

I found my problem today I decided to pull the Heatsink off to put some Arctic Silver on it and found that the person that built my PC was stupid enough to leave the protective plastic on the bottom of my heatsink. I ripped that off and also Faced it and now it is running around 38-40C.

LOL oooo my god, i got one of these problems at pc world the other day where some go built hes own pc and kept saying hes pc kept crashing we found out hes heatsink had no thermal compound LOL.

just wonder wat better stock compound or something like Arctic Silver i'm a noob when it comes to this stuff and does it really make a different in the temperture and also i never really heard of atctic silver but been hearing good thing about it but do u guys happen to know of any place ing Australia perfeable sydney where i could purchase it?

Thanks for the help

Talk about a little lack of attention to detail! He's lucky he didn't damage anything...wonder how much lifespan he took off his rig?
