News AMD Threadripper Pro 9995WX can run 400 copies of Doom or eight instances of Crysis simultaneously — CPU is so powerful that tester left 100 copies...

24-core Zen 6 (and presumably 32-core Zen 7 or 8) and Intel's 16P+32E Nova Lake will have a Threadripper-like feel on a budget.

The end of the Core Wars is in sight for consumers. Few applications that people use benefit from more than 32 cores. The next-generation Xbox and PS6 could have less than 12 Zen 6 cores, locking that in as the gaming standard for the entire 2030s.

Single-thread gains, big 3D caches, integrated graphics, even integrated NPUs, are more interesting. Maybe we'll have integrated high temperature quantum coprocessors before consumers need 96 cores.

The real draw of Threadripper for many is the I/O capabilities and memory bandwidth. You can jump on the bandwagon for $1,499 with the 24-core 9960X, plus the extremely heightened motherboard costs and a good cooler. I noticed the previous-gen 7960X is selling above MSRP!

have you checked the prices of those Threadrippers on places like AliExpress yet? though I suspect if you're in the USA (or even if you're in a country that is not next to China), the pricing wouldn't be that different anyway...
and this proves, once again, that old Intel Xeons are best for budget HEDT/workstation builds 😛

Intel is the budget king, for sure. They flood the market with boring but reliable and cheap CPUs. Like the complete i3-10105 system I got for under $100 that does it all.

that sounds like a good deal.
Here in my country, 12/16-core Broadwell/Haswell Xeons can be acquired for just shy of 15 USD per CPU, and I can realistically build a budget dual-CPU HEDT monster for under 300 USD. The potential electricity bills might be really expensive in the long run, but it's not like I'll use the HEDT build 24/7 at 100% utilization all the time anyway 😛
