So I just got a new build from amd to Intel and I wanted to keep the same HDD with the same windows 10 Installation on it but it won't boot. On my Mobo (Asus z390-e) there is a error light by boot idk If this helps identify the problem or not though. I am able to get to bios and everything shows up fine but I can't boot.

My new build is:
Mobo: Asus z390-e
Cpu: i9-9900k
Ram: 16gb trident z
Old build:
Mobo: msi970
Cpu: ryzen fx-8350

Is there any fix to this without having to get a new HDD and reinstalling windows?

Solution
Is there anything on drive you want to save now? can you put it in the old PC still? would be handy to see how it was activated. You can move licences but you have to do certain steps first - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change

If you can't use old PC, there is still a way to move licence if you have the sticker for the last install. Was your last PC a pre made PC(like a Dell) or made for you?

On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced

Any Windows installation only works on the ONE motherboard you originally installed it on. If you want to reuse that HDD, the only option is to format that drive via Windows Installation Media and start over.. means you'll lose all your data. Unfortunately, that's the only solution that I know of

Win 10 has been known to swap from one install to another, its just not guaranteed. You don't have to reinstall in every case. The problem is the license will stop working instead if it was moved like this.

there is a error light by boot idk
where is light? on motherboard? might want to look in motherboard manual and see if it shows what light means

You probably want a new hdd if you want to keep your data. CLean install is likely best way.

IS your win 10 licence linked to your username?

choose command prompt
type notepad and press enter
in notepad, select file>open
Use file explorer to copy any files you need to save to USB or hdd

once you copied everything off the hdd, you could then clean install win 10 on the current hdd - follow this guide: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-do-a-clean-installation-of-windows-10.3170366/

??? I have taken system drives and run them in different boxes a number of times. Windows to Go depends on this being possible. I have cloned System Drives and booted them in another box a number of times to verify them. The first boot will take a while because windows is installing the correct drivers. You can usually even run the transported system for a short while before you get a not activated message. When installing a new MB, you will likely have to contact MS to re-activate the install. I have gone through this process several times, always successfully.
