I would give AMD some of that Powerball money if anyone wins. So sad to see AMD losing so much money, even though they are most likely to blame.

It is sad, AMD products haven't been leaders for some time but they have always been quality products. It is a shame that the workers and engineers are losing their jobs because of the few leaders have failed to take the company in the right direction.
Hopefully this cash grab can sustain them through their restructure and into growth. At least they aren't firing everyone in Austin.

They're losing money because the 8 core 4ghz I processor I just bought from them on CyberMonday is "slow"... Even my Grandma commented on how it was totally inadequate for Facebook and Farmville compared to her 5 y/o Core2Duo laptop.

It's not because Intel bribes OEMs into not to launch AMD products
It's not because Intel coerces the tech media into creating this ridiculous perception that AMD CPUs are "slow"
It's not because they've had to make hard business decisions because of the revenue losses from items #1 and #2

Remember, it's just because they are "slow"

man, i wish amd would get their butt in gear. abandon bulldozer, add in the aes and avx instruction sets into optimized 28nm ohenom cores. there. instant seller. this isn't that difficult...

so your grandma used a bulldozer CPU, but says it's slower than a C2D, an intel atom or AMD brazos will be enough for her

I currently use a AMD 955, a twin socket Xeon X5680, and a mobile i5. I really don't notice a "slow" aspect on my AMD machine. Honestly, the i5 feels the fastest due to the SSD. The Xeon feels the most sluggish, I think it is has a crap hard drive. I also own a core 2 duo from '06 and it is slow as dirt, doesn't even compare to my old X4 9950.
My desktops (gaming rigs) have always been AMD and my notebooks have always been Intel and I have to say they have both been great. I would although, never recommend the old AMD turion(w/e spelling), my wife's notebook gets so hot!

All companies do this and some make mistakes and they lose some cash 8( shit happens. I got quad core 3.7 cpu in my main rig from AMD and it runs great 8) no complaints.. I got i7 for my Alienware and it runs great the video card is the 7970m and it kicks ass no reason to spend 300 bucks more for a 680 that is equal to the 7970m in most games.

AMD has the new consoles to look forward to. When exactly do they get paid for that anyway? Sometime after contract negotiations, sometime during development, or when it(they) hits the streets?

You know what, I see intel commercials and flyers in the mail/junk mail all the time...

I have never seen any of that from AMD...

YOU NEED TO ADVERTISE MORE...

Take the money from this campus and run some TV commercials!

I would love for amd to compete, in low power and laptop areas they have a pretty good thing going and i hope an injection of cash will do somethign good fo rthem this time, i wanted to go amd the build i bought this past weekend (well the parts they are still in transit currently) but after research and efficiency (mostly due to the heat in summer here in fl) is important to me so had to go intel, but next year when its my pc and not my wife's i hope they have somethign for me

Even if you won powerball and took every penny after taxes and handed it to them [maybe $350-400M], how long do you think it will sustain them?

They have $1.3B after a $470M loss in less than a year. So, your powerball "donation" would probably be gone within a year.
