I had an AMD FX 4350 4.2 ghz quad core processor for gaming..

I recently just bought the i5-6600k 3.5 ghz quad core

I know the i5 is a lot better, but why. When the AMD CPU has a faster cpu speed and has four cores, what makes the i5 bstter

Very simple, the clocks don't mean crap without knowing now much is done in that clock. It's like comparing an electrician who can install a wall outlet every 15 min compared to one that can install all the wiring in a house in an hour. Sure the first guy seems faster (does his job in just 15min), but the second guy IS faster (does 100x the job in just 4x the time). Intel currently has at least a 1.5 instructions per clock lead over AMD, so for an AMD chip to have the same performance you need to multiply it's clock by 1.5x!
Instructions per cycle (IPC). Intel Core Series processors have higher IPC rates than currently available AMD processors. The higher IPC allows the Intel chips to execute a greater number of instructions/second despite the lower clock rate.
