I want the best laptop under 1000.00, some have AMD and some have Intel. Is there a difference in them, as for as speed, dependablilty, anything!? Please help, tell me the best brand in laptops of that price range.
Thanks

There are differences. Intel's are faster for the most part (though it depends on the specific model), but that doesn't make them the best for a specific price range. Dependability is more a function of the laptop manufacturer than the CPU manufacturer.

What is your budget, what screen size do you want, what kind of battery life do you need, and what do you want to use the computer for?

My price is 1000.00, want 17 inche screen or 18.3, use mostly for web serfing and email. Battery life is not a consideration, as I am replacing a desk top and will have it plugged in mostly. I'm not a gamer but do use for listening to music, but that is another direction. Saw some awesome Bose for 90.00
Thanks much

I didn't know that Bose speakers were not supposed to be good?? I listened to the two that plugged into the computer, and the sound was great, even in the bass, but I'm not too picky with my sound. Will have to think about that one!

Thanks for the laptop answer, that is the one that I have been comparing with a similar one that is about 950.00. Seems almost the same but has a few extras, and a few minuses. I like the lower price.

If I were going for a desktop, what would you suggest, when space is a real problem? I know that a desktop is supposed to last longer and be upgraded to a point, where a laptop has to stay pretty much as is. The All in one desktops don't seem to be taking off.
Thanks again.

Bose speakers aren't terrible, but they are often overpriced. For $90, you might be able to do better. Which ones were they?

As for the desktop, you can make a good micro-ATX pretty easily. If that still won't fit, then you're pretty much stuck with a laptop.

Intel usually works better, exspecially at the high end i5 and i7 but at dual cores, intel is really over priced and I think you should spec AMD x2 instead of i3
