AMD vs Intel...which CPU better for gaming

HEY GUYS,

i cannot make up my mind between FX 6350 and the more expensive intel CPU's like the 4430, 3570k, 4570k ...etc

i will be using 8 gigs of ram and GTX 760 OC by gigabyte and maybe to crossfire in the future

while Intel is the obvious winner with performance, efficiency and for future upgrades, i do want the AMD processor because their cheaper and their motherboard pack a punch at a cheaper price than the intel MOBO

All i want is to play modern games at 720p at 40-60 FPS, no recording, no multitasking.

if u think i should go with AMD please tell me if it will bottleneck my system

if u seriously recommend that i go with intel...please tell me which processor and what MOBO, i dont want to exceed 200 - 250$ for both of these

For gaming and the price of the FX 6 core CPU, you cant beat it. Games a very Graphics card dependent.

Ive only ever bought AMD CPU's, Ive used plenty of Intel based computers before but honestly theres not much of a difference. not at the price your talking about. AMD rules the low end in my book. Crossfire is a AMD thing. SLi is Nvidia.

Id say pick your poison. AMD's Kevari is launching soon, Id get that for 175$, put a AMD 270x in there with 16gb AMD memory and your rockin man. boards are cheaper to.

or get the low end I5, up to you really. I hope no one starts fan boy crap. btw the AMD 270x for 200$ is way more performance per dollar then the 760... Just saying.

great for gaming are 3570K/4570K - MB Z78but if your on a lower budget and wanna save some money i'd go with fx 8320 and a 990fx MB
in some games i5 3570K can prob get higher fps then fx 8320 but you cannot see the difference its low

If you choose to get an Intel i5-3570k/4670k, the AMD equivelant would be an overclocked 8320/8350. So the performance obviously goes to Intel if you're comparing the i5s to a 6350/6300.

And to the above poster, I realize that AMD's APUs benefit from faster RAM, and lots of it, but what's the point of a dedicated GPU as APUs are designed to work as a sole unit; CPU and GPU within one. Getting an APU and a dedicated GPU is a little redundant and makes the whole point of getting an APU a little moot.

But back on topic, a 6350, or an overclocked 6300 would likely not bottleneck a GTX 760, and since you're playing at 720p, you should have less problems than someone trying to push their rig at 1080p. But if you do decide to choose Intel, you really can't go wrong, and could eventually add a better GPU/second GPU, and get a 1080p+ monitor.

Thanks for the advice man... when does Kevari come out and will it be compatible with AM3+ MOBO's (the same mobos that run 6350)?

ASRock H87 Pro4, ASRock Z87 Pro3, Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H are good $100 ATX mobos for i5-4430.

Kaveri comes out in a few days I believe, CES is currently ongoing and they're already showing off new motherboards for the socket. I'd wait and see the benchmarks before you buy anything.

If 40-60FPS is your target range then you will have 0 problems with the FX 6300, especially at 720p. Get a nice GPU too - a 270x would work but I'd recommend a 280x if you could.

thank you all so much ... I decided to go with intel 4430 cuz I dont want to overclock, its efficient, powerful and when I eventually upgrade the cpu in 2 or so year I dont have to get a new mobo unlike the FX series that will be replaced soon

Umm, depending on what you want to upgrade to, you might have to change motherboard to upgrade your CPU. I believe the best you can get on the Haswell socket is the 4770k, and I believe the line is dead. Next is Haswell-E (different socket) and then something else - they're moving away from the socket already, from what I've seen.

Having said that, the 4430 is a great CPU. And the 4770k won't be outdated for quite a few years to come.

I call them "preliminary" benchmarks because the site (Pugetsystem.com - they sell custom PCs and laptops), decided to voluntarily remove their review because of AMD's NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement). Basically, an NDA states when product information can be released to the public by 3rd party companies.

Well i know its probably way too late haha but if its 720p gaming something like an fx 6300 and a gtx 760 oc will last you till it dies of dust and decay.
But the way the world works youll find 1080p will be tastier eventually and likely want to switch it up. And as someone who owned an Fx-6300, some more cpu heavy games like planetside 2 or X3 albion prelude wont handle well at all and you will notice the AI, particle effects and normal physics in the games wack out. Spawn through buildings running through mid air for a second and spawning on the ground etc.

The intel alternative is probably better. The fx 8350 isnt realy much better than the 6300 and floating points in the cpus are shared by 2 cores each. So in games and some oter circumstances where the games riding on 2 cpus its not gonna get much out of them because floating point performance will be shared by the 2.

Thanks 4 ur advice man but its way too late... I bought i5 4670 k and msi gtx 760 oc at 720p ...and I have to say I adore it... I get 80+ fps on bf4 with everything at ultra and its visuals are amazing... ill buy a 1080p monitor when I upgrade my gpu so I can have good framerate...but Im glad I chose to spend moneyon cpu and z87 mobo so I dont have to upgrade 4 a long time

Thats awesome man money well spent then. But if you like your 720p but cant see yourself cranking out 500 for higher up card theres always the graphical levels in between.. 1600x900 with my 760 and i5-4670 happily stays atleast 50 fps without touching the clock speeds on BF4. Dont be afraid to squeeze your rig a little!
